What are the benefits of eating foods rich in fiber?  First and foremost, fiber helps aid in a healthy bowel movement.  It will help you be able to pass stool safely as it helps absorb the water and soften things so you are not straining.  Secondly, fiber is beneficial in preventing diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diverticulitis, gall and kidney stones.  But the reason you are probably waiting to hear is because it can help control your weight.  If they are high fiber foods they will help you to feel full and lessen the amount of sugar that enters the blood stream.  Make sure to eat a lot of bran, barley, oatmeal, and citrus fruits!
