9/14/Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

My husband said to me last weekend while we were out shopping, "I need you to pull into a drive-through.  I'm starving and I need a snack."  (Lately he's been doing a lot of manual labor on the farm and gets shaky from hunger because he's burning so many calories).  I, of course, instantly asked, "Well what are you going to get at a drive-through that's healthy?"  I wasn't trying to nag him about being healthy but I know generally he likes to make good choices when he's eating.  He mentioned that he thought a yogurt parfait would be good for him.  I immediately wanted to say, "Are you crazy?!  I'm sure they don't make that low-fat and the sugar has to be outrageous!"  But, luckily I bit my tongue and looked up the nutritional facts when I got home.  It's 160 calories, 2g of fat, and 21g of sugar, 4g of protein (McDonald's Parfait).  I was actually shocked, even though the amount of sugar was high, (a lof of that is due to the fresh fruit and the sugar in yogurt) my husband needed the protein and sugar from burning so many calories to replenish.  Should it be a snack on a daily basis?  No.  It's definitely a little high in calories and way too high in sugar but at least they use low-fat milk and granola!  I would say it is a good option if you've done a high-impact workout that is out of the ordinary.
