11/1/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

It's always interesting for me to hear all the different ways that people parent.  Since I'm a new mom I'm always taking in what everyone says and then deciding from there how I want to do things.  Yesterday a lot of students shared many ways that their families handle Halloween and all the candy.  It went from kids being able to keep the bag of candy in their room to parents limiting the amount they were allowed to have that night and each day after.  Let me say, as a teacher, I thank you as a parent if you limit the amount of candy your child eats.  I'm not kidding, the day after Halloween it's like a zoo.  The kids are bouncing off the walls; it really is evident that sugar has a major effect on kids.  Some houses were handing out mini-bags of pretzels or Teddy Grams.  I thought both were a great idea!

We let our son try his first Kit Kat last night.  He had one bar and of course had a FIT when he couldn't have more.  It's amazing to me how much our brains want more and more candy after we have just a small amount.  LOL, I sure wish he would act that way when he eats his veggies or protein!  He's a fairly good eater but he still spits out a lot of veggies and different meats (especially chicken) that he doesn't like.  It's evident from just the two times he's now had candy that he loves it.  I mean, who doesn't?  I just know my rule as a parent is going to be to limit the amount he can eat after trick-or-treating - even if it takes until Easter to finish it all!!! Laughing

Oh!  and I've finally had a break through - hopefully it will reflect on JC's scale...123.8!!!!!!!!
